Finding mentors

What's the difference between free and paid mentors?

1 min read Updated recently

Every mentor on GrowthMentor is vetted through the same application process. Free vs paid isn't about quality. It's where a mentor sits on our give-first model.

How free vs paid works

GrowthMentor is give-first: mentors start free and stay free until they've earned 3 reviews. After that they can choose to set a rate, and only mentors with 10+ reviews can charge above $100/hr. In practice around 80% of mentors are free at any given time.

Free mentors

  • Included with your membership at no extra cost.
  • Often newer to the platform and building their review base. Many are highly experienced people who simply enjoy giving back.
  • Held to the same vetting standards as everyone else.

Paid mentors

  • Have chosen to set a rate after building a track record of reviews.
  • The fee is on top of your membership and goes directly to the mentor. GrowthMentor takes no commission.

Price isn't a proxy for quality. Some of our highest-rated mentors are free. Choose on expertise, reviews, and relevance to your situation, not price.
