Pick one customer group to win first
Your first sale came from a friend of a friend, and your signups look nothing like the buyer you planned for. Your pitch deck lists three customer groups, and you have time to serve one.
Write down who paid, how they found you and what they used before. A mentor can help you choose the group to chase for the next 90 days and park the rest.
Choose the first channel to test
When nothing works yet, every channel looks worth a try. Each one suits a different buyer, price and timeline:
- Founder-led outreach. Direct messages, calls and warm intros. Slow, and the fastest way to learn why people buy. Often where the first B2B customers come from.
- Communities. Reddit threads, Slack groups and forums where your buyers already ask for help. Answer first, link later.
- Content and SEO. Builds over months. Worth starting early, too slow to carry the next quarter alone.
- Paid ads. Fast to read once you know who converts and what a customer is worth. An expensive way to find that out.
- Partners and referrals. Agencies, consultants or tools that already serve your buyer and can introduce you.
People sign up. Why don’t they pay?
A hundred signups and one paying customer is a common place to stall. More traffic will not fix it if people never reach the moment the product is worth paying for.
Bring your numbers for each step: visit, signup, first use, payment. A mentor can find the step where people leave, and whether the fix is the product, the price or the audience.
Spend on ads once you know what a customer is worth
Sixty clicks and no signups tells you little. A cost per customer above your monthly price tells you a lot, so set the budget, the audience and the number that counts as a pass before you spend.
The mentors above include founders and growth leads who took products from first sale to millions in revenue, first marketers at B2B SaaS startups and specialists in paid ads, positioning and conversion. Pick the one closest to the decision you face this month.
People who were exactly where you are.

Before you join
What people ask before their first call.
The one where your buyers already gather and where you can reach 50 of them this month. For many B2B products that is founder-led outreach and warm intros. Paid ads usually come after you know who converts and what a customer is worth.
For the first customers, usually yes. Those early conversations teach you what to say, what to charge and who buys. A mentor can help you plan the first 20, from who to contact to what to ask.
Find where people stop: before first use, after first use or at the payment step. Each needs a different fix. Bring the numbers for each step and notes from conversations with users who left.
An agency can run a channel that already works. It is a costly way to find out who your customer is. Sell to the first customers yourself, then hand over a message, a list and a process that convert.
Who has paid so far and how each one found you, your numbers from visit to payment, what you have tried and what it cost. Add your website and your pricing.
The session is for advice and review. Hands-on work, such as running ads, outreach or an ongoing growth role, needs a separate agreement with the mentor; say what you need in your request.
