A sounding board for marketing leadership
Leading marketing means making decisions across channels, people and company expectations. You may have strong specialists around you and still want an experienced peer to challenge the plan before you take it to the CEO or commit the budget.
Bring a decision with consequences: the next hire, a change in priorities, an ambitious pipeline target or a disagreement about what marketing should own. The discussion should build on the expertise you already have.
Connect the marketing plan to business expectations
Start with the commercial goal and the assumptions behind it. Which customers, conversion rates and sales capacity does the plan rely on? Where do marketing, sales and finance see the situation differently?
Bring a concise view of your targets, results, team and constraints. A mentor can help you question the logic, communicate the trade-offs and identify which assumptions need agreement before the team commits to delivery.
Work through team and resource decisions
A leadership problem can look like a channel problem. A missing skill, an unclear owner or too many priorities may be preventing a capable team from making progress. Discuss what each role needs to accomplish and what you can realistically support.
Use the session to compare hiring, agency support and changes in scope. Be explicit about what you would stop or delay to make room. You should leave with a decision you can explain to the people responsible for carrying it out.
Choose experience that matches your remit
Choose a mentor who has held comparable responsibility in a relevant business model. Building a B2B pipeline, leading consumer growth and managing a global product marketing team require different experience. The explanations above help you find that fit.
You can bring a focused question or return to review what happened after a decision. Agree on any ongoing arrangement with the mentor. A useful relationship gives you candid perspective while you retain ownership of your team and strategy.

Before you join
What people ask before their first call.
The focus is on decisions that come with leading the function: priorities, team structure, budgets and commercial accountability. Share your current remit and the decision you need to make, then choose a mentor with relevant leadership experience so you can work beyond the basics.
Bring the decision, the evidence and the assumptions behind your recommendation. A mentor can challenge the reasoning and help you explain trade-offs clearly. Keep sensitive company information within your own sharing rules, and remove details that are unnecessary for the discussion.
Bring the definitions, handoff points and conversion data each team uses. Discuss where ownership or expectations diverge before debating channel performance. An experienced mentor can help you prepare a more concrete conversation about shared goals, responsibilities and what to measure next.
Yes, bring the outcomes the team needs to deliver, the skills you already have and the gaps you see. A mentor with team-building experience can help examine role scope and hiring priorities. Discuss sensitive people issues without sharing unnecessary identifying details.
A session can help you review the expectations you have inherited, your proposed priorities and the stakeholder relationships you need to establish. Bring what you have learned so far. Focus on the decisions that need early agreement before committing the team to a broad plan.
You can discuss returning to a mentor to review decisions and what happened after them. Confirm their availability and agree on expectations together. Bring a focused question each time, so the relationship stays useful as your team, targets and responsibilities change.
