When a marketing strategy review is useful
A review is useful when there is a specific decision on the table: renew an agency, increase a channel budget, bring work in-house or change direction after growth has slowed. You need someone who can challenge the assumptions behind that decision and understand the consequences for the business.
Start with the question you need to answer. A focused discussion about a proposal or performance report is easier to act on than a general request for more growth ideas.
What to bring to a marketing review
Bring your business goal, current channel mix, budget and the results you trust. Add the proposal or plan you want reviewed, along with the team capacity behind it. A short summary of recent changes helps explain what the numbers alone cannot.
Point out anything uncertain: inconsistent attribution, a long sales cycle or a gap between leads and revenue. Agree with the mentor on what can realistically be reviewed in the session.
Turn the review into a decision
Work through where the constraint sits: who you target, what you offer, how you reach buyers or what happens after they respond. Then examine whether the proposed investment addresses that constraint.
Aim to leave with a clearer priority, the assumptions that still need checking and the evidence you would use to continue, change or stop the plan. Your team remains responsible for execution and results.
Choose relevant operating experience
Look for experience with your business model, sales cycle and stage. An ecommerce acquisition question and a B2B pipeline question can require different perspectives, even when both start with the same concern about marketing returns.
The short explanations above describe why each mentor fits this page. Read their profile and use your request to explain the decision. If they also provide agency or consulting services, ask about any commercial interest before treating the advice as independent.

Before you join
What people ask before their first call.
Yes, you can ask a mentor with relevant experience to discuss the objectives, scope, assumptions and measures of success. Share a concise brief first and agree on the review scope. A mentoring call does not replace a detailed audit or legal review of the contract.
A review can help you prepare better questions for your agency and clarify what you want it to own. Bring the agreed goals and recent reporting. The useful outcome may be a tighter brief or better measurement, rather than a change of provider.
Bring the link between reported conversions and actual customers, including your sales cycle and attribution assumptions. A mentor can help identify what needs investigating before you increase spending. A headline return figure alone is rarely enough to judge the whole plan.
An experienced marketing leader can use a session to challenge a plan, explore a trade-off or prepare for a budget discussion. Make the question specific and choose someone with relevant operating experience, so the discussion adds to the team’s existing expertise.
These sessions are for advice and review. Agree on the question and any preparation with the mentor. If you need an audit deliverable, ongoing leadership or campaign execution, clarify that separately rather than assuming it is part of a mentoring call.
Choose relevant experience first, then ask whether the mentor has a commercial interest in any provider or service being discussed. Explain that you want a second opinion on a decision. Compare their reasoning with your own evidence before acting on the advice.
