How do I prepare for my first session?

1 min read Updated recently

Getting the most out of your first GrowthMentor session starts with a little preparation. Here's how to make it count:

Before booking:

  • Browse mentor profiles and read their reviews to find the right match
  • Be specific in your session request — mentors appreciate knowing what you need help with upfront
  • Consider starting with a 30-minute session to test the waters

Before the call:

  • Write down 2-3 specific questions or challenges you want to discuss
  • Have relevant context ready (your website, metrics, deck, etc.)
  • Test your audio and video beforehand
  • Find a quiet space with good internet

During the call:

  • Start with a brief intro of yourself and your situation (2-3 minutes)
  • Let the mentor guide the conversation — they've done this many times
  • Take notes! You'll want to remember the actionable advice
  • Don't be afraid to ask follow-up questions

After the call:

  • Leave a thoughtful review — it helps the mentor and future mentees
  • Follow up on the action items discussed
  • Book another session if you need continued guidance
