1. Artyom Sarkisov

Describe yourself

Hi there, I’m Artyom. I’ve been a marketing manager for over 8 years covering a plethora of marketing activities for a number of tech companies. I’ve worked with cross-functional teams, and managed a couple of marketing teams of my own. I’ve recently switched to the product management role full-time (and this was a marketing decision btw), but I feel the need to share my previous marketing experience with others. I want to do this for two reasons:

1) It hurts me when I see how much money companies spend on marketing, thinking about it as a silver bullet, expecting huge returns on investments, and then… not getting any. This happens a lot, especially with startups. I’ll help you change your vision towards marketing and figure out the correct marketing mix based on your market niche, product life cycle stage, competition, and budget.

2) I don’t want my marketing skills to get rusty because of the recent change of my job position. Mentoring seems perfect to keep my marketing skills in shape.

Will I help you get a five figure ROI? Of course not. But I will help you move in the right direction, and nip the wasteful activities in the bud.

Book a session if any these keywords hit a nerve: general marketing strategy, planning marketing mix (PPC, SEO, Content, and release management), managing a marketing team, and especially unit economics (marketing metrics such as CVR, CAC, CPA, LTV, and of course ROI).

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

I simply feel the need to share all the marketing experience I’ve had in the last 8 years.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

A professional with a growth mindset is a person who knows what metrics indicate product success, and what actions can be taken to improve these metrics. My strong belief is that for most of the companies the key metric is the growth of the monthly average usage (MAU), and the best actions to tackle this indicator are correct product decisions and conversion rate optimization (CRO) activities. If you have that rolling, building and implementing a marketing strategy with all kinds of paid and guerrilla communications, and even figuring out a pricing strategy, become joyful.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

The topic would be called “Setting up correct marketing expectations”, because this is where companies fail most in my experience.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?

Off the top of my head, one of the products I worked for had a slightly declining month-over-month usage. None of the marketing activities seemed to be helping. 20 custdev sessions later it became clear that we had overall performance issues (it was a desktop app and it was too slow), and bugs in the debugger (one of the key features). 2 years of prioritizing and delivering fixes for these issues resulted in the MAU growth from that time onwards. And that’s on a stagnant market.

4. Calum MacLean

Describe yourself

Hi, I’m Cal. For the past 6 years I’ve worked with early stage CEOs, CTO’s & Founders to fund and scale their businesses.

It’s been a rollercoaster of experiences, pitching investors (AUS & USA), building Sales & Marketing teams, building partnerships and operating as the challenger / disruptor.

From pricing to commercial strategy, from data rooms & forecast models to software delivery & company culture I feel like the past 6 years have given me a career’s worth of experiences.
If you are running a start / scale up, I invite you to learn from my mis-steps and good ideas. I sincerely hope to make your journey just a little easier.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

To share my experience, add value & to learn.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

It means evaluating an idea or concept before disregarding it. It means learning is never done and most importantly, everyone has something to teach me.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Pitching B2B SaaS companies to investors.
I’ve done it a lot 🙂

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?

We needed to accelerate revenue growth.
I reached out to a friend in the industry and together defined a list of possible partners with an overlap in customer base. Critically, we noted their interest areas & weaknesses. What can we offer them that is unique to us that they need? What would set them apart by partnering with us? We worked diligently on a pitch that focused on using our product to create an ecosystem with a unique value proposition. We won the partnership and gained access to their customer base and sales team giving us access to more and larger customers than we ever would have won on our own.
A true synergy is easy to sell and maintain.

5. Celine Fosse

Describe yourself

Hi, I’m Celine! I speak French and English. In the past decade, I’ve developed a passion for helping people behind the scenes of scaling B2B businesses. My approach is to create engagement by considering the gaps in the experiences the business is providing today, to improve performance and your business’ valuation (I’ve been a part of 5 successful company acquisitions). How does it work? By establishing a healthy culture of development that attracts and retains the best talents out there.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

Guiding others is the part of the job I love with passion and I want to help more people scale their business from my experience in B2B and SaaS.

Navigating these complexities and focusing on people engagement, especially for recurring business models such as SaaS, is where I come in. Why? Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?

Flipping non performers into star performers by coaching them, helping them own their talents, making them feel empowered and treating them like the responsible adults they are. Such engagement has helped retain team members, and bringing sky rocking business performances without $ investment.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

GTM and setting the holistic marketing strategy.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?

March of 2020 everything shut down. I’m the CMO of a high-end media and book publishing company. We’re in trouble. What do we do? We decided to teach everything we know in live sessions on how to write, publish, and market a book in the 1st week of the lockdown. Since people weren’t traveling, not commuting, and were stuck at home they didn’t have the “I don’t have time” excuse. This led to over 20k people joining the first week. We held several more live and recorded sessions, and eventually created free video courses. It has resulted in several million in direct revenue. All from a fast pivot to provide people what we know for free, in a time where they welcomed the information and distraction from what was happening in the world.

Hi, I’m Emma. I’m the Senior VP of Accounts at Relevance, a growth marketing agency. I lead our account team, and help create and execute client strategies across a variety of industries. I enjoy helping people achieve their desired growth through a holistic, strategic approach.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

I’d love to help other people succeed!

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

A growth mindset means that you look at your efforts as a whole to determine where to put your focus. From there, you test, iterate, and optimize on the regular to see what works, what doesn’t, and what to put your power behind to see your desired growth.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Growth marketing with an emphasis on content.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?

I was working with a company that had just launched a couple years prior. They had a small blog that was unorganized, and lacked much brand credibility.

To help their growth, I created a blog strategy that was optimized around target keywords that would be key for us to rank for. I also knew I wanted to help boost their brand credibility by getting some high-quality mentions.

After implementing the strategy and regularly creating onsite content to build a web of authority, using digital PR to build credibility, and doing some SEO link acquisition to help with rankings, we were able to boost organic traffic to the site by 381%.

At Cognizant, I was responsible for the Communications, Media & Technology and Travel & Hospitality verticals with a combined target of €275 million, which we achieved within 10 months. I was also leading the marketing and branding for The Digital Studio, one of the largest (2,500 m2) digital design, innovation and delivery centers in the Benelux. In my current role, I am actively contributing to the commercial organization at Transmetrics, where I repositioned the company and its products to resonate better with the target audiences. 13. Martin Stellar

Describe yourself

Student of psychology and human nature, introverted people-person, ex-monk and former copywriter – currently coach for ethical selling and growth.
I like helping business owners who have their heart in the right place, to make things simpler, more fun, and more lucrative.
Big fan of systems-thinking, understanding the customer, empathy, and listening.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

Because it’s fun to help people, and because I remember all the generous people who’ve helped me in the past.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

A growth mindset is what you start to develop when you decide to always ask:

“This thing that’s happening, what does that tell me? What data does this give me, how does it prove or disprove my hypotheses? What does it say about my previous and current decisions? In what way does this enable me to create leverage, or eliminate clutter, or create connections with other people or ideas or strategies?”

It’s an attitude of eagerness to learn, to tinker, to experiment – and, a growth mindset can’t exist without the humility to accept being wrong.

Pair that with a ready willingness to call your own assumptions into question, and you find yourself with a gritty, perceptive, adaptable attitude, ready to grow your business, relationships, revenue, personal well-being… create improvements across the board.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Helping people look at their pipeline in a way that enables them to move their deals forward faster, and close more of them at higher rates.

The sad fact is, the majority of business owners are way too reactive with their pipeline, and whatever sales they make, are usually underpriced.

Mentoring on how to actively, thoughtfully review people and opportunities, and which actions to take, is one of the most fun and rewarding things I can think of.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?

Helped a client go from writing long proposals, filling out time-sheets and earning ~$300 per hour, to simply sending a few bullet-points by email, selling pre-paid package deals at a dayrate of $5000.

Describe yourself

Hey, my name is Max & I’m the Social Media and Influencer Marketing Lead at SellerX…but don’t worry, I promise to contribute something more than doubling down on reels and running giveaways.

My humble beginnings started in growth, it didn’t take long for me to realise that I enjoy social more than I do PPC & that a lack of data literacy often doesn’t allow us to harvest the true power of social media & community.

Growth Agency to Social Media measurement solution, I’ve had the pleasure of working with providing analytical insights and strategy for some of the biggest social handles in the CPG, Entertainment, and Sports industry globally.

I enjoy exchanging knowledge & feel that others may find my expertise valuable.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

I’d love to say that a grown mindset is thinking outside of the box… but in reality for me it’s using all the tools in the so-called box in innovative ways & through various combinations.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Social Media / Influencer Marketing strategy & its place in your marketing funnel.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?

Faced with limited a limited budget, I ran an influencer marketing campaign I jokingly refer to as the “symbiosis model”.

The majority of the budget was used for a micro-influencer (with a demographic aligned with my brand persona & high levels of social proof) who produced and gave us rights to great quality content.

We later had pages dedicated to the niche post content produced by the influencer with special discount codes across their feeds. Designated attribution links allowed us to identify the highest converting pages & retarget users further down the line. With an initial CPM of under $0.60 USD.
