1. Adam Fard

Describe yourself

I am a senior lead UX/UI designer with more than 11 years of experience. My passion for design steadily grew into establishing my own agency, which I’m currently leading.

Along my journey, I’ve managed to both work with some of the industry behemoths such as Samsung, HubSpot & Deutsche Telekom, and lesser-known SaaS & FinTech startups (Series A & above).

A few things that I believe set my agency and me apart:

  • We do in-depth research with dedicated researchers, which goes beyond the industry one-man-designer-army standard. Google searches don’t cut it.
  • We’re serious about educating our readers and clients. On top of running a weekly design blog with 20k+ monthly readers, we integrate design into the very DNA of our clients.
  • We’ve been remote for years before the pandemic hit. We’ve already solved problems newly remote agencies don’t even know they have.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

It’s time to step up my giving back to the tech community: I want to educate at least 50.000 founders and executives on the UX and product design best practices, by the end of 2023.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

The best definition of a “growth mindset” I can give is being smart about setting goals, finding the most efficient ways of reaching them, failing & experimenting along the way, being persistent, and getting closer to the goals daily.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

If there were just one thing for me to mentor, that would have certainly been product design. I’ve been in the design industry for about 11 years, so I’ve almost seen it all. On top of that, my passion for merging research, business, and visuals have sustained me throughout my journey.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

This project involved the improvement of an AI platform.

Users were skeptical of the results generated by the AI platform because it had a black-box approach with no transparency.

To address this, we explicitly outlined the accuracy range of the AI and the degree of confidence one can have in the results.

Instead of presenting the AI recommendation as a single line on a chart, we used a gradient to show users the range of possible outcomes.

We received overwhelmingly positive feedback during usability testing, and after launching the platform, we saw an increase in trust and adoption among users.

I’m a B2B Growth Leader with experience across SaaS, Tech, Supply Chain, Logistics, MarTech, and EdTech. I excel at driving revenue growth from Series A to Series E stages at startups.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

I enjoy connecting with startup founders and helping them make their vision a reality through great marketing.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

A growth mindset is regularly questioning the status quo, chipping away at self-limiting beliefs, and reframing setbacks as learnings.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

The appropriate growth strategy depends on the company’s stage, product, market, and funding.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

At a previous company I worked at, the sales team struggled with getting in touch with senior decision-makers at large enterprise companies.

They tried traditional tactics like cold emailing and cold calling but mainly were ignored. So I tried asking some of those people to speak on our webinars or co-present with us at conferences and found that they were responsive because they were interested in thought leadership opportunities and building their personal brands.

So as part of our strategy to engage net new accounts, we started specifically getting them to speak at our events first which built familiarity and connections with our team.

After a speaking engagement, we would thank them and ask if they were interested in learning more about our product and many were.

4. Anne-Marie Anghelache

Describe yourself

Hi there! My name is Anne and I’ve been working in corporations my entire life.

Throughout my technical career, I’ve helped build infrastructure for a large number of organizations, driving change management, mergers and acquisitions, and technical architecture elements.

I am also a Modern Workplace Lead for 250+ people, which I am incredibly passionate about.

Making sure some of the best-in-class consultants in the industry have all the guidance and support that they need, ensuring they know what their career paths are, feel happy with their roles, responsibilities, mental health, and a number of other things is part of my day to day role when I’m not wearing my Consultant hat.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

Mentoring is one of the most impactful processes, in which helping others achieve more, find themselves, and realize their potential can be hugely satisfying.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

Growth mindset is having the ability to understand that there’s always something to give, something to learn, and something to adapt.

It is understanding your goals and targets clearly, being able to recognize your weaknesses and strengths correctly, and learning when to leverage others to help elevate yourself/a solution/a situation.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

To put it in one word, empowerment.

Across so many industries and millions of people, it can be hard to feel appreciated, valued, and worthy, and I love talking about how much value people have.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

I once found myself with a customer that no one wanted to deal with, along with Global Administrator Rights in a room full of servers, decade-old infrastructure, and a highly political and very public acquisition underway.

I had two months to single-handedly complete the design, pilot, test, and implementation of moving a 10-year-old infrastructure (across different platforms, services, vendors, and applications) to a completely new one where the politics inside the organization wouldn’t allow me to move anything. It got done successfully, but even now when I walk down the street and see the logo, I cringe a bit inside.

6. Arie Elbelman R.

Describe yourself

I truly believe the human factor is essential for the success of any initiative.

After having worked in well-known Israeli startups for many years, I decided to go back to my roots and offer meaningful transformational workshops for companies, startups, communities, and individuals.

I have walked through a path that allows me to comprehend that innovation and strategy focused both on the ‘human development’ of institutions and on their audiences, is the key to success.

Using an innovative methodology I created, I help people unveil aspects of their identity they weren’t aware of, enabling them to find new and effective ways to communicate.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

Because crafting fruitful transformational processes is my motto. Sharing is caring and we must humanize this kind of process.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

What growth means will depend on the goals and objectives each person sets up for themselves.

But a growth mindset, in my opinion, talks about being absolutely sure that by taking certain actions and implementing new tactics, things can -and will- improve. Is, in some way, identifying how can we become either bigger or more impactful, instead of questioning if we can do so.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Discovering unseen aspects of their brand/corporate identity in order to create effective strategies and messages.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

If I tell you guys that I almost always begin my big workshops by asking CEOs and investors of very traditional corporations to take off one shoe in order to both break the ice and dynamize the group, would that count?

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Go to market strategy. It’s one of the most critical pieces of early growth and the key to sustainable business. Determining the market fit and positioning is my wheelhouse.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

Marketing for a bootstrapped company can be hard. It’s difficult to build an engine on limited resources.

At one point I was at an organization navigating a low budget and fierce competition. Instead of going head to head with the competition on advertising and events, I found a back door.

I leveraged agency and tech partners to build brand equity (FREE), tapping into an influencer network that actually doubled our visibility.

I’m a B2B growth marketer with experience helping SaaS companies scale in the US, EMEA, and Australia.

As a generalist, I have a knack for spotting opportunities across channels using a combination of data-driven insights and customer-influenced ideas.

I’ve been fortunate to work with some first-class marketing teams and know how to structure a combination of in-house + external experts to achieve goals, especially when there’s a consideration for regional vs. HQ organizational structures.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Use of data to set strategy & execute in an agile framework. How to build and nurture teams to achieve goals.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

We had an internal subject matter expert who customers just loved speaking to for strategic advice. To scale the reach of his wisdom, we created an eBook. It was great but just didn’t replicate that 1:1 value he provided.

So, I decided to turn the eBook into a workshop and he led the first pilot edition of it to a jam-packed room (95% attendance rate for an IRL event… best event I’ve run to this day!). Over time the workshop became more polished and turned into a global roadshow, then a webinar series, and finally an “event-in-a-box” package that our field sales could leverage.

We took each learning or piece of feedback – positive and negative – and iterated.

Face your challenges as opportunities for growth rather than roadblocks, and embrace a mindset of ongoing learning.

Hi, I am Igor, Founder & CEO of PowerSync, where we help transform product and retail businesses into best-in-class service companies: from strategy to adoption, to maturity, and every stage in between.

I transitioned from the corporate world to running my own business full-time late in 2019.

I am very passionate about a recurring revenue business model. I love figuring out how it can be implemented and leveraged in ANY industry for ANY business.

I am married with two kids, love to travel, and love LEGO Star Wars.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

I grew my business from $200k to over 7-figure revenue in one year; I want to share my knowledge with like-minded business owners to help them on their journey.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

Never be scared to try new things, and learn how to adapt quickly on your journey. The best analogy I can think of is this: If you run and fall, don’t waste your time thinking about how bad your knee hurts; instead, focus on what you need to do to get up quickly and how to make that first-next step towards the finish line.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

How to create & implement a recurring business model in your business. How to scale recurring business revenue past seven figures. What it takes, what challenges you will face, and how to deal with them.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Scaling a B2B SaaS company.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

I was experiencing problems in establishing proper feedback culture within my team. After having tried various different approaches, I decided on the “Hot chair” exercise.

In a physical circle, sitting on chairs, the individuals on the team took turns sitting in the middle. The remaining members took turns to give the individual in the center feedback on what that person could do better in their professional capacity.

I of course took the chair in the middle as the first person.

I closely guided the session, and made sure that we talked about the feelings it created – both in the receiver and the giver, and discussed the importance of a feedback-culture, in order to transform into a truly high-performing team.

Honest feedback is the only way to truly transform a group into a team.

37. Pranay Rathod

Describe yourself

Hi, I am a marketing guy and I started marketing when my first startup, a tech product, needed to be marketed both online and offline.

Post my startup’s failure I worked with several companies and successfully launched and marketed several of their products.

This gave me an opportunity of growing products from 0-1, 1-10, and 10-100.

And while doing this I explored many marketing channels like Email, SEO, Social Media, Content, Paid, and also part of Events, Partnerships, and PR.

With exposure in both the B2B and B2C industries, I have built quite and experience in marketing products and services for both categories but my forte majorly is in marketing software products.

Also, after having worked in a number of places and roles I realized another problem that quickly turned into a startup idea and I am currently working on that.

What can you expect from me?

1. I can help you prepare marketing funnels.
2. I can guide you on your marketing strategies.
3. I can help you convert your leads to paying customers.
4. I am open to brainstorming startup ideas.
5. And, I can help craft a path for a go-to-market for your early-stage startup.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

Anyone who follows the A3R3 funnel [Awareness, Acquisition, Activation + Retention, Revenue, Referral] and wants to go from 0-1, 1-10, and 10-100 have a growth mindset.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Organic Growth – Because this builds a loyal fan following for your products/services and is sustainable in the long term.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

Acquiring 1660+ paying customers in 3.5 months in a competitive CRM space dominated by giants like HubSpot, Zoho, Freshworks, and Monday was a complex enough problem that I had solved back in 2019.

The complexity was defining our product’s positioning in the market so that people don’t compare us to the existing CRMs.

For that, we conducted a lot of webinars with our target audiences and circulated them on multiple channels, and defined our positioning which attracted the right customers.

My strategy heavily focused on paid social to build awareness and brand recall and on content, SEO, and organic social posts to drive engagement and traffic to our website.

I was once tasked with finding a solution to a complex problem of communication between multiple user groups.

I was determined to find an out-of-the-box solution that would be both efficient and effective. After some research and brainstorming, we came up with the idea of developing a smart chatbot. This chatbot would be able to answer customer queries in real-time, as well as direct them to the right department or person for further assistance.

The implementation of this chatbot has had an immediate impact on our customer experience, allowing us to provide better service while also freeing up our customer service team’s time. It’s moments like this that make me think “damn, I’m pretty good!”

Growth mindset Strategies

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

A doctor couple who were part of a founding team of 5 business partners, were running 3 Healthcare diagnostics lab centers with MRI capabilities, reached out to me for help in recovering their business and discussing ideas for growth for their centers.

Background: Due to covid their # walk-ins had reduced significantly to 50% across 3 centers in Bangalore.

While discussing their narrative they kept talking about how they were victimized by their co-founding team to invest a significant sum of capital in setting up the center.

Eventually, they were able to run the operations profitably up to 2019. Key challenges were around growth, customers, the bottom line was declining YoY, attrition was high, the capital was exhausted so they were looking for an investor, and operations costs were escalating.

During our discovery session, on asking them questions on their leadership skills, team skillsets, capabilities and resources, and marketing strategies they looked blank as they had never thought about different tactics except for referral business. This opened up their minds and I nudged them and challenged them to develop their own business acumen and think about various hiring and marketing strategies to grow the business.

I also reached out to my connects for seeking potential investors and damn I could line up 3 potential investors in a matter of a week’s time for them to initiate discussions around growth plans. And to revisit the business plan in 2 weeks’ time.

On the holistic front-we initiated some basic layout changes and supported the founders with wellness products like crystals and space-clearing techniques that could support in making the place more energetic and optimistic for client walk-ins.

We talked again and they shared some actions they had taken since we met and how they were approaching client acquisition and also planning to go slow on activating the 4th center until they could turn around the existing ones.

In a year’s time, they confirmed that whatever we discussed was put into place and they were back on track. This is how I could support a traditional business in healthcare.

A client (one of the largest regional restaurant chains in the US) was stuck on how to grow without using large capital expenditure (capex) to either renovate existing restaurants or build new ones.

To solve their problem, I had them identify their underutilized assets – namely above-average profitability in their niche (from good operating practices) and lots of good relationships with credit-providing institutions.

The primary solution was to license their operating practices to other restaurants in their niche OUTSIDE their geography. The secondary solution was to act as a broker of credit to other restaurants who needed access to capital and to take a percentage for acting as the middle person.

So we created an iOS-based app that could be retrofitted into a simple encasing + included Quest 2’s as part of the offering for the buyers.

We then onboarded the hotels through a range of buyer demos; the Hotels quickly realized how much more efficient site demos in VR were, and now event planners see the Quest 2 as a business essential tool. We effectively created the demand and the solution all at once.

Describe yourself

I am passionate about supporting early-stage tech founders who are doing good and doing it well, without giving up on profits.

I focus on helping founders get ‘unstuck’ to get more paying customers and build a predictable growth engine through owned and earned channels.

I am a customer-obsessed marketer with 13 years of experience at the intersection of tech, marketing, and ‘doing good’.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

My life’s goal is to help tech founders build companies that are doing good, and doing it well, without giving up on profits. I hope this will become a regular way for me to give back and achieve this goal!

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

A commitment to learning and improving, starting with scrappy hypothesis-driven experiments to discover data-driven scalable motions working towards your north star (revenue, mission, etc.).

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

0 to 1 marketing for tech startups – getting your first paying customers, product positioning, go-to-market strategy, or identifying scalable channels for growth. Expertise in product marketing + owned/earned channels for purposeful brands e.g. email, automation, content, partnerships, and referral programs.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

I was leading marketing (1st head of marketing) for a freemium SaaS product. The free-to-paid conversion rates were low, customer service tickets were high, and demos were taking up significant time. Hence, MRR was stagnant but we were all busy.

When looking at the data, I identified a few different customer segments. I investigated the customer journey for each through scrappy but holistic customer research (listened to sales calls, mined competitor reviews, attended industry events, etc.).

Based on this, I discovered a major aha moment – we had 3 main segments of customers. Each of them was using the product in completely different ways (i.e. to do different jobs) and had drastically different customer journeys.

The solution I am proud of: (1) Switch from freemium to a free trial, (2) 3-tier pricing tier targeting of the 3 segments, (3) separate marketing package each – product positioning, landing pages, ad creatives, marketing automation, etc. The result: Every metric improved.

I graduated from the Berlin School of Economics and Law in Information Systems and have been living in Bangkok, Thailand the past 10 years.

47. Toby Cox

Describe yourself

I’m the CTO and GM of Dovetail. We’re a venture and product studio. I have experience from the nuts and bolts of technology, through to scaling teams and businesses.

I get a lot out of having conversations with people about the challenges they’re having. It’s often how I overcome my own challenges, and I would love to give back.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

I really believe in the mentorship model of having a variety of different conversations with people around your challenges, rather than tying yourself to one individual — this platform seems to support that!

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

Growth mindset for me comes down to not treating any situation as being out of your control to change.

As an engineer, I feel it’s important to truly understand things from top to bottom. If you don’t have that understanding, then you’re powerless to fix or change things.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Scaling out technology teams, leadership, and organizations.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

As a rapidly scaled business, we were recently struggling as an organization to define how we build our products and what our most important principles around product were.

We spent months doing workshops around teams to pull out their version of their product-building identity. The workshops resulted in good conversations, but a very messy collection of opinions.

I spent a few hours on a plane pulling out the common themes and wrapping them into a simplified framework to communicate to the team.

The team massively latched on to this and ran with it, and now the framework is being used across kick-offs, retros, sales material, and more.

Describe yourself

Acquisition always ends with an activated user. I have worked in early B2B & B2C startups that were just validating the product, in post-product-market-fit companies that entered high-growth, and in scale-ups with +100M users per month.

My core experience revolves around Acquisition and Activation, both in B2B SaaS and B2C consumer products. I can help you with your acquisition strategy, how to create a strong first experience (onboarding), product market fit search, funnel design (B2B funnel or B2C user journey), segmentation, and lead qualification in both product-led companies and marketing-sales-led companies.

Also feel free to ask me about marketing operations, lead scoring, ABM strategy, or activation process.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

Give to others what I learned and get from my mentors throughout my professional work.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

Understanding the mechanics of why the companies grow and how to use the right leverage.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Acquisition & Activation

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

Created a place for the community to shine – a marketplace of apps for an Open Source product – vuestorefront.io – it really motivated people to create more integrations and the product received very strong traction from tech enthusiasts.

Describe yourself

I make sure things work smoothly. This is my role as a Managing Partner in a Venture Capital firm, where I’m responsible for cross-functional aspects of running the firm (operations, fund management, finance, legal & regulations, risk management).

Hit me up for help in building what you have in mind and/or making sure that every element of your startup is functioning perfectly.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

I’m a VC so I get to speak with founders, specifically within the Web 3.0 space. But I really want to help startups in other sectors that I’m passionate about (cleantech & environment, health, nutrition)

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

  • Adaptability to every possible factor
  • Continuous learning and open to being wrong (hopefully less than right)
  • Strong determination
  • Eyes on very specific objectives

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Strategy and all back-end aspects of running the project. A lot of people only pay attention to the front end, but a spaceship can’t fly without a direction and well-oiled machinery.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

Being able to learn and become proficient in new business areas when launching and operating new funds and other projects.

Describe yourself

Head of Product Growth. Product Growth consultant. Mentoring upcoming product managers and product leaders. Reforge alumni.

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?

Mentoring and guiding others through challenges similar to those I’ve faced in my 20+ years of professional experience is very rewarding, and guiding people on their journey is what I enjoy doing at this stage in my career.

In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?

Growth is both a mindset and a methodology. Understanding where your product is at in its lifecycle and whether it is ready for growth. It’s also super important to know where you’re at in your career and whether you’re ready to grow, and in what areas. So, always be curious. Always ensure you’re solving the right problems for the right customers/users. Always look for evidence, not just data to grow.

If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?

Product strategy & execution

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself.

I was working at a startup that had started to scale following a significant funding round.

I revised the strategy for a tribe and cut back on the grandness of the work that was being considered as part of the initial vision. I proposed that the squads only focus on the core areas that would have the greatest impact in the shortest possible time.

More effort was directed to focus on onboarding and engagement to drive monetization.
