Before you learned about GrowthMentor, where were you getting advice from?

I was working alone in a startup with no other marketers or marketing professionals or marketing experts to help. And since I was basically the only person who was learning how to do marketing, I had a lot of questions. And I didn’t know how to get answers to them.

I was trying to have lunches around Helsinki and just meet other marketers. But of course, I couldn’t just bombard them with questions like, “do you think my landing page works? Do you think this text is good?” over a friendly meal.

Then a friend of mine advised me to check out GrowthMentor when I about to hire a consultant. He said, “you don’t really need the consultant to advise you, just chat with growth mentors instead.”

And then I checked it out and just fell in so much love with the platform as I got so much good advice from there.

What sort of advice did you get on GrowthMentor?

My first session was about our content marketing strategy for our blog. We have some great content on the blog, but none of it was converting. And then the advice Foti gave us was that we should target the higher intent keywords, even if the keyword planner showed less volume. This seemed so obvious when I heard it, but just because no one was saying this before in my team I never really thought about it like that.

Then, I had another few calls about Google ads. Recently I’ve started spending a lot of money on Google ads. I had been struggling for a while just to understand them and then I changed my job and was in a new situation where I had to focus a lot on Google Ads with this new company. And since I wasn’t doing that before, almost at all, it was all new to me.

So the moment I knew that I’m going to do a deal with Google, it just booked a lot of sessions with different people to understand how Google Ads work. Like how to understand them, what’s their logic, how to get the most out of the ads manager, and ultimately how not to spend thousands of euros just nothing.

What topics are you thinking of booking calls on in the future?

Basically, if I have something that’s really important that I can’t solve it by myself or something that I’m still in the learning process of. For example, Google Ads now. I’m just understanding how it works, how to get the most out of the features, or anything I might have unknown unknowns on.
