The Top 10 Growth Newsletters You Need to Subscribe To
Newsletters are one of the best ways to stay updated on industry trends and learn from a range of perspectives quickly.
There’s just one big problem: if you only subscribe to the best-known ones, you’re getting the same info as every other growth practitioner out there.
Which is why we decided to compile a list of our favorite newsletters, both from the GrowthMentor team and our 700+ mentors, so you can be sure you’re subscribed to both the big-name rock stars and some amazing hidden gems.
With each newsletter listed, you’ll get:
- What to expect: the newsletter’s general format (if it’s standard) and cadence
- Why we love it: What the GrowthMentor team and mentors love about the newsletter
- What we use it for: A quick look at the reasons we turn to these newsletters again and again
1. GrowthWaves
What to expect: 2 emails a month covering B2B growth including interviews, case studies, trends, and frameworks.
Why we love it: George Chasiotis, mastermind behind Growth Waves, was one of our first mentors on GM. We’ve been keeping up with his endeavors since and were psyched to hear he’d started a newsletter.
What we use it for: We turn to GrowthWaves for in-depth breakdowns of growth playbooks as well as keeping up with rising stars in the industry.
2. Demand Curve
What to expect: a newsletter three times a week that breaks down specific topics and successful industry campaigns.
Why we love it: If you’re new to the growth space, Demand Curve covers a huge breadth of subjects. So it’s a great way to familiarize yourself with the space if you’re new. Plus, since it’s 3x a week, you can catch up fast.
What we use it for: Getting a leading industry perspective on campaigns and SaaS growth tactics.
3. growth.design
What to expect: A regular case study in comic form walking through the UX principles behind real world flows that really work (think examples from giants like Trello and Duolingo).
Why we love it: Hat tip to mentor Lucia Bustamante for seconding our recommendation! If you’re not a designer (like me) but love user psychology (also like me), Growth Design is a godsend. Textbook theory for UX principles is one thing. Actually seeing those principles in action is another (and infinitely more helpful for building your own flows). Growth Design shows you how to apply the principles and why they work.
What we use it for: Getting inspiration for our user flows, especially when we want to shake things up with an experiment.
4. Growing Up
What to expect: A weekly newsletter featuring B2B SaaS industry news, curated marketing stories, and witty commentary on all of the above. Some newsletters also include roundups of new marketing jobs, community posts, and useful tools.
Why we love it: While this one definitely leans towards the marketing side of growth, Brendan Hufford and Lindsay Adams nailed the holistic, experimentally driven spirit that separates “growth marketing” from traditional marketing. We also suggest giving them both a follow.
What we use it for: Keeping a finger on the pulse of industry B2B SaaS news and understanding why these stories really matter. Plus, you can also find out how companies like ActiveCampaign, Sparktoro, and Navattic actually get customers.
5. Product Hunt Daily
What to expect: Every daily newsletter follows a pretty standard format—you’ll have three major headlines, a product highlight section, the ten most popular launches from the day before, and a “cat nips” category that provides an assortment of links to interesting products and apps.
Why we love it: So this one isn’t as strictly in the growth space as some of the others on our list. But, if you’re in the tech space, it’s a great way to keep up with what’s trending.
What we use it for: Along with staying up-to-date on trends, the GM team also uses it to snag releases of great breakout products (seriously, some of the companies that are giants now started off with Product Hunt offers)
6. Kyle Poyar’s Growth Unhinged
What to expect: a weekly newsletter breaking down the playbooks for growth at the fastest growing startups.
Why we love it: I subscribed to Growth Unhinged after hearing Casey Hill and Cody Lee recommend it (after all, if our mentors recommend it, I know it’s good.) Since then, I’ve discovered that Kyle offers amazing insights through articles that are in-depth, but are such effortless reads they feel super-quick.
What we use it for: Kyle’s playbook breakdowns are a great way to see how the principles of growth work in action. And for deep dives into specific topics (i.e. pricing page optimization), Kyle pulls multiple examples from different companies.
7. Adam Goyette’s Friday Growth Note
What to expect: A weekly, quick and punchy take on marketing and growth
Why we love it: Adam tackles all his topics in an fun refreshing way, drawing on personal experience and pop culture to segue into his discussions (and absolutely not in an awkward LI “what {insert topic of your choice here} taught me about B2B marketing” way). Plus, he tackles a broad range of subjects under the growth and marketing umbrella.
What we use it for: Catching a speedy, voice-driven update on the marketing world with a healthy dose of growth-practitioner-brain at play. If you’re on the marketing side of things and want to move into growth, subscribing to Growth Note is a great way to start.
8. In Growth We Trust
What to expect: A weekly podcast covering a ton of growth topics through interviews with industry experts, including some of GrowthMentor’s mentors
Why we love it: Are we cheating here by suggesting a newsletter that links to a podcast? Maybe. But this was recommended by not one but multiple of our mentors and members.
What we use it for: In Growth We Trust is a specialized podcast, focusing on growth in the EU startup space. So it’s an awesome way to stay in touch with the EU ecosystem if you’re part of it or a way to get fresh new ideas from new perspectives if you’re not.
9. The Growth Loop by Eugene Segal
What to expect: A regular newsletter focusing on PLG growth in the SaaS space
Why we love it: Eugene Segal’s focus specifically on PLG carves out a unique niche in the growth space. If you’re on the product management or product marketing side of things, you’ll appreciate his takes.
What we use it for: Keeping an eye on the pulse of great ideas in PLG SaaS. If you’re looking to get a primer on the growth side of PLG, it’s a great way to get started. Plus, Eugene has a way of breaking things down in a way that’s both detailed and accessible, even for those newer to the PLG realm.
10. MKT1
What to expect: Two newsletters a month covering a variety of B2B marketing topics in the tech and startup space.
Why we love it: Thanks to mentor Cody Lee for introducing me to this newsletter. First, the organization of the MKT1 homepage is top-notch. Marketing is a big umbrella, so having the dividers of product marketing, content and brand marketing, and growth marketing (which is treated as more than just experimental PPC) helps immensely. Second, the content is super well-organized within each article.
What we use it for: Emily’s content is snappy and easy to understand, so marketers across experience levels can understand growth better. Plus, the various frameworks make it easy to dive in to a new topic and get caught up quickly.
If you subscribe to all these newsletters and read them regularly, you’ll cut your learning curve down a ton.
But sometimes, you need more than advice in a newsletter. So if you want to get 1:1 advice tailored to your challenges, join GrowthMentor.
