GrowthMentor helped me focus on the goal right in front of me, instead of getting shiny object syndrome and losing focus.

Tell us something about yourself and what you are currently working on.
I’m the founder of Permit Hound, a real-time platform that aggregates permitting data so commercial real estate professionals can stay informed, save time, and make more confident decisions.
Permit Hound started as a passion project while I was supporting the team at the nonprofit I work for. After seeing the insights the tool could provide, I began sharing it with brokers and developers.
Right now, my role is very much Founder, Creator, and Solopreneur as I work to gain traction with Permit Hound. My current focus is validating target market fit and then developing an outbound sales strategy, potentially leveraging offshore talent, which I’m confident GrowthMentor mentors can help guide me through.
Before you learned about GrowthMentor, how did you deal with the challenges you faced?
Before GrowthMentor, I would join masterminds and various communities, along with using ChatGPT, to deal with the challenges I was facing.
I was often frustrated with communities not aligning directly with my needs. For example, I joined a paid community only to realize I was the only one focused on technology startups, which wasn’t a great fit for the kind of help I was looking for.
What ultimately compelled you to sign up to GrowthMentor?
What ultimately compelled me to sign up was the opportunity for one-to-one mentoring with professionals who have done exactly what I want to do in building a startup.
It was also about accessibility to talented mentors who have walked the same path as me. I don’t want to walk through an uncleared minefield without someone who has walked it before.
What’s your favorite thing about GrowthMentor?
My favorite thing about GrowthMentor is how deep the talent roster is. I can find a mentor for pretty much any challenge I am facing.
The platform is extremely intuitive, and there is no nickel and diming, which is a welcome relief compared to other platforms. The AI mentor matching tool is also extremely well done. It’s not a generic feature; I can describe exactly what I need help with, and it suggests multiple mentors that align really well with that.
What topics have you mostly discussed with mentors?
Most of my conversations with mentors have focused on copywriting, mindset, and go-to-market strategy.
Is there a specific session/mentor that stands out in your mind as super helpful?
Helen Peatfield stands out for copywriting and mindset. She went above and beyond by doing homework before our call, which made the session especially helpful and relevant to what I was working on at the time.
Based on the things you’ve discussed in calls, do you have any results to tell us about?
Through these calls, I recognized that building a startup is a grind, no matter what the 17-year-old millionaire influencer says.
I also learned that finding target market fit is rarely easy, which helped me not get discouraged and stay the course.
How has GrowthMentor helped you?
GrowthMentor has helped me focus on the goal right in front of me instead of getting shiny object syndrome and losing focus.
It also lets me “call a timeout” when I’m unsure what my next step should be. I can get on a call with a mentor within 24 hours and be back in action, knowing I’m moving in the right direction.
