How the referral program works

3 min read Updated recently

Every GrowthMentor member has a referral link. Mentee or mentor, the deal is the same: anyone who signs up through your link gets a free month with one call in it, and once they become a paying member you earn 50% of every payment they make, for 12 months.

Where your link lives

On your referrals page. Copy it as it is, or point it at any page on growthmentor.com: your mentor profile, a mentor you keep recommending, the membership page, a post you wrote. If you're a mentor, it points at your profile by default.

The rules, in full

  • The cookie lasts 30 days, and the last link clicked is the one that counts.
  • They have 60 days from sign-up to make their first payment. After that the referral closes and earns nothing.
  • Each commission clears 15 days after the payment that earned it, which covers the refund window. Until then it sits in Pending on your page.
  • Renewals count too, for 12 months from their first payment.
  • Someone who has paid for GrowthMentor before isn't a referral, and neither is referring yourself.

What it's worth

Half of what they actually pay, at our published prices:

  • Annual membership, $600 a year: $300 to you.
  • Quarterly membership, $255 a quarter: $127.50 to you per payment, on every payment they make inside those 12 months.
  • A team plan is worth considerably more, on the same terms. If you know a company that would buy seats, that's the referral to make.

Getting paid

Request a payout from your referrals page once your cleared balance reaches $50. It goes to your PayPal. A person sends it by hand, within a week of your request.

Following what happened

Your referrals page lists one row per person who signed up through your link:

  • Free month: inside their free month, hasn't paid yet.
  • Signed up: free month over, still inside the 60 days.
  • Paying: paying now, earning you commission.
  • Did not pay in time: the 60 days passed with no payment.
  • Ended: they paid for a while and then stopped. You keep everything that cleared.

What actually works

A bare link converts badly. A reason attached to it converts well.

  • Share the takeaway, not the link. Write up the thing you learned or taught on a call, the actual advice, then put your link at the end or in the first comment. This is the one that works on LinkedIn and in newsletters.
  • Send it to one person at a time. Whoever told you last week that they're stuck on positioning will convert better than an audience of 3,000.
  • Put it where you already write. Email signature, the about page on your site, the resources list at the end of a post, the PS of your newsletter.
  • Name a mentor to book. "Talk to this person, they've done exactly this" gives someone a place to land. An empty search box doesn't.
  • Say what the free month includes. People assume there's a card to enter somewhere. There isn't.
  • Follow up after they join. A short "saw you signed up, here's who I'd book first" is the difference between a free month used and a free month wasted.

Fine print

Self-referrals are flagged automatically and earn nothing. Commissions on a payment that gets refunded are reversed. Everything else, email [email protected].
