Finding a mentor starts with a question: who has experience that would help with the thing I am trying to do? A job title can point you in a direction, but it rarely tells you whether someone has worked through your particular challenge.
We’ve rebuilt AI matching in-house so we can improve how it finds relevant experience, compares possible matches and explains its choices. As we learn which recommendations lead to useful conversations and which miss the mark, we can use that feedback to improve the matching.
Start with the decision you are facing
Describe your challenge in your own words. The most useful context is what you are working on, where you are stuck and what you have already tried.
For example: “People sign up, but most never finish setup. We have tried welcome emails. Should we simplify onboarding or change who we target?” That gives the matcher a concrete problem to look for, with more to work with than a broad topic like growth or marketing.
Experience behind the recommendation
The engine draws on evidence of mentor experience from recorded mentoring sessions, mentor interviews where available, and relevant reviews. These give it context about the problems mentors have discussed and the work they know.
The aim is to find experience that transfers to your situation. A mentor who has worked on a closely related decision can be useful even if their industry or job title differs from yours. The system compares candidates for the challenge you described and gives you three suggestions, each with an explanation of why that person could help.
Refine your matches with a little more context
If your request needs more detail, matching can ask a clarifying question before suggesting mentors. Add the answer to your challenge and run it again. You can also use Edit & Tune Results after seeing recommendations, whether you want to narrow the problem or explain something you left out.
Read the explanations, open the profiles and decide who you want to speak to. If the recommendations miss the mark, the relevance feedback on the results page lets you tell us.
Each recommendation gives you a reason to take a closer look at someone, with enough context to decide whether their experience fits what you’re working through.
