Why do mentors have to get three reviews before they can charge for sessions?
GrowthMentor is a give-first platform, and the review ladder is what enforces it.
New mentors do their first calls for free until they have collected 3 reviews. That means even a deeply experienced mentor with an impressive resume gives their early calls away, so a bootstrapped founder can get on a call with them at no cost. Roughly 80% of mentors on the platform are free at any given time, and GrowthMentor takes no commission on sessions.
What happens after 3 reviews
Once a mentor has earned their first 3 reviews and gotten their feet wet, they can choose to set a rate for their time. We think that is fair. They have proven they show up and deliver, and being reimbursed after that point is their call to make.
The $100 cap until 10 reviews
There is a second rung on the ladder. Mentors can set a rate after 3 reviews, but they cannot charge more than $100 an hour until they have 10 reviews.
We believe everyone around the world should be able to get world-class advice at reasonable pricing. The mentors we accept are chosen because they fit our give-first ethos in the first place, and this cap keeps that honest while a mentor builds a real track record. By the time someone can charge above $100, the reviews prove it.
