The Work
Tell us about what you are currently working on.
I currently head the local marketing for a blockchain-led wealth company, specializing in digital assets.
On the side, I'm also hoping to launch my own creative project in the coming months. It's an emerging space, which is super exciting, but also a huge learning curve to navigate as well.
Before
Before you learned about GrowthMentor, how did you deal with the challenges you faced?
I've been a part of start-up / scale-up incubator communities that have offered a handful of mentoring services, as well as learning from industry peers, colleagues, and other mentors in my network. I've also paid for a number of other professional communities.
As a keen learner, podcasts and Youtube have been my guilty love. But while these, along with a number of courses and groups have played an insightful role in my personal growth, nothing has compared to the value-tailored support, and a second (experienced) external point of view provides.
Being a remote, sole marketer can also be a lonely journey sometimes, so it's been great to connect and discuss ideas with the mentors on here too.
Also, I find it's easy to get stuck in a consumption cycle, whereas mentoring stretches you to cut procrastination, execute your goals, and holds you accountable to 'actively learning' through taking action.
The Decision
What ultimately compelled you to sign up for GrowthMentor?
My new role has brought a number of new responsibilities (we're a lean team with big goals!).
I also would love to maximize the value I can bring to my industry, so it seemed like a no-brainer to join a community like GrowthMentor to connect with like-minded people who have walked a similar path.
Apart from the caliber of mentors on the platform, GrowthMentor has fantastic learning resources and an online community. Everyone's super supportive and invested in each other's success. I've just moved to a new city, and can't wait to be a part of the local community here too.
Inside the Platform
What's your favorite thing about GrowthMentor?
My day-to-day is constantly evolving and presenting new challenges, in my career as well as my personal projects.
At each step of the way, GrowthMentor always has someone with expertise in the area you need to make the next step.
I'm also a frequent traveler for work, so I found the platform's setup perfect for my remote lifestyle, making it much easier to maintain and nurture relationships.
What topics have you mostly discussed with mentors?
So far, topics relating to role growth, my industry (blockchain), customer research, GTM, sales, and growth marketing generally.
The Breakthrough
Is there a specific session/mentor that stands out in your mind as super helpful?
I've been blessed with every single of my mentors so far, they have all been exceptional.
However, I couldn't write this without giving a shout-out to Calum MacLean.
Anything strategy, business development, and marketing related, he's excellent. Because of his support, I've been able to grow in my role a lot quicker and view situations from new perspectives.
Not only that, mentors like Cal have inspired me to start my own mentoring journey when the time is right. And for that I am grateful for South Africa! Ha!
The Transformation
How has GrowthMentor helped you?
Good question. I am still putting a lot of my learnings to practice and a few things I can't reveal on the internet yet.
But I think more than any tangible results, in a short space of time GrowthMentor has allowed me to accelerate my development in a way that would have taken me much longer on my own.
Much of this I've covered above, but most importantly, my involvement with GrowthMentor has allowed me to push beyond beliefs around what I'm capable of, and what's possible for the business, in ways that I'm sure will pay dividends throughout the rest of my professional (and personal) career.
The Verdict
What three adjectives would you use to describe GrowthMentor?
