Best Practices for Managing a Team Account

Congrats on hooking your team up with the gift of Growth!

You can now rest easy at night knowing that they have an endless pool of knowledge to tap into at any time they need it.

Here’s a good analogy: You’ve provided your team with gym memberships, offering them access to a variety of trainers and equipment. Now, it’s up to them to book their training sessions and start their fitness journey.

Your role is to encourage them to take advantage of these resources and to help them set goals for their personal and professional development.

Setting your game plan as team manager

Before talking to your team, decide on your involvement and make it clear from the get go. You can go the “I’m going to be suggesting who you book calls with” route or the other end of the spectrum, “This is totally up to you. Book with who you want.”

The important thing is to stick with whatever you decide. If you tell them that you are going to suggest mentors for them, don’t drop the ball 😉 Set that reminder to do so every Monday.

We’ve found that the sweet spot is setting the intention of 1 call a week.

Getting started as a Team

  1. Hop on a team intro call with one of our team specialists and let your folks ask any questions they may have so that can feel ownership of their GM account.
  2. Let your team know your expectations for them and how often you would like them to use GrowthMentor and tell them how you will be holding them accountable.
  3. Tell them that you can see who they are booking with and the main topic and that you can’t see the session title or any of the communications with the mentor. Transparency is important here.
  4. Lead by example and book calls yourself and share your learnings.
  5. Integrate GM calls into your team discussions and ‘water cooler’ chats.

Team Dashboard

As the manager you have a bird’s eye view of your team’s usage in your team dashboard.

With this view, you can easily say to a team member, I want you to do 3 calls about content in the next few weeks and hold them accountable by simply checking the dashboard.

Top tips to ensure your team is not missing out on this invaluable resource

  • Add it to their weekly KPIs (set a goal of 1 call a week to build the habit).
  • Have them record their calls (with mentor permission) and then transcribe them to share key learnings with the rest of the team.
  • Gamify it and have a leaderboard and whoever does the most calls at the end of the month gets a prize.
  • In team meetings, have each person share their top GrowthMentor takeaway from the previous week.
  • Micro-manage it and set a reminder for yourself to check the stats 1 a week (on a Tuesday for example) and if you see that someone isn’t using it, ask them directly what’s up and offer some suggestions
  • Lead by example and book 1 call yourself a week and share your learnings.
  • Give props for those who are continually striving for personal and professional growth.

Our team is very involved in the community, so never hesitate to reach out to us or ask us to suggest mentors for your team.

A common theme we’ve seen over the years (and in our very own office) is ‘not knowing where to start’ or ‘having too many good ideas’. We can suggest any of these folks to speak with about this age old dilemma.
