Max is amazing! He is super friendly and approachable and gave me really knowledgeable and honest answers to my questions, drawing from his own experience. I really loved the way he broke down the problem and helped me understand how to approach it. A conversation like this really underlines the point of GrowthMentor -- Max not only gave me suggestions, he also recommended a few products/people who he had worked with in the past! And he generously followed up after our call with a ton of useful resources! Thanks a TON Max, I really appreciate it. I'd love to grab another session with you once I make some headway! Thanks again for your time!
Probably one of the best calls I've had on the platform! Went into detail on all my questions. Max was well-prepared and I could really feel he wants to help. He even sent a list of resources after the call. Highly recommend!
Max is a not just a friendly and very knowledgeable SEO, but he was very open to share how he actually does SEO and answered all of my questions. I will definitely ask him for another session soon :)
Hi, My name is Max and I'm an SEO professional with over 13 years of experience in the field. I've worked for some of the biggest start-ups in Southeast Asia, helping them become market leaders in their industry through SEO. I've worked in-house across eCommerce, booking platforms, health and publishing. I've also spent many years working agency side and have worked on sites in pretty much every industry. I love sharing my knowledge, observations, and thoughts with the SEO industry and thought it would be great to also share that knowledge with founders and start-ups. I have experience in all areas of SEO, such as: Content and Strategy - Keyword research - Content ideation - Content optimization - E-E-A-T improvements Off-site - Link building/earning - Wikipedia/Wikidata page creation Technical - Site structure - On-page optimization - SEO audits - Site migrations - JavaScript Sites - Schema I'd love to hear about your challenges, see what you are working on, and help out with your SEO questions. Let's make things happen!
While in-house at Lazada I managed local SEO teams in 6 countries as well as regional analysts. In my most recent agency experience with Primal, I managed a team of 4 SEO Analysts, 1 manager, 2 developers, and 3 outreach specialists. In my current role at Hello Health Group, I manage in-house SEO teams in 3 countries and also a team working on client campaigns.
I've managed outreach teams in SEO agencies and also managed link-building efforts for internally for start-ups. My strategies are ethical, white had methods to encourage link earning at scale.
13 years of experience across all areas of SEO and a very deep understanding of the technical side of SEO, with JavaScript sites a speciality. I have 7 years experience heading up SEO in-house for start-ups and 6 years experience working agency site.
I’ve been using ahrefs for as long as I can remember and it’s my favourite SEO suite. Originally I used to use it for simply backlinks, as that is all it was at launch, but it’s since grown into a Swiss Army knife of a tool. Its keyword and content research tools are great and its site-auditor is definitely an underappreciated tool when it comes to site audits and on-site SEO.
I previously used Asana for project management between 2017-2019. However, I found it lacking in a deep enough hierarchy, so I have since switched to ClickUp.
Not much to say about Google Analytics as it is the industry standard when it comes to analytics platforms. I use it pretty much daily for analysing organic traffic. I don’t have any experience with GA4 yet, as it cannot track AMP, and a lot of the traffic I need to analyse is AMP traffic.
I use Data Studio to create Dashboards to help visualize and communicate organic growth. I usually build my own dashboards as although there are some great templates out there, they are usually lacking in some aspect. However, I do find Data Studio to be frustrating at times, as although it’s very useful, it often lacking in specific functions that is needed to be able to build what I need.
Google Search Console (Web Master tools) is a must-have tool for anyone working in SEO. It's the best source of organic traffic data (as opposed to estimates in 3rd party tools) and it gives you valuable insights into other areas such as page indexing, schema mark-up, and technical issues. Most days I open Search Console at some point!
Although I'm not a developer when it comes to JavaScript, I have an advanced knowledge when it comes to SEO for JavaScript sites. As search engines can have issues with JavaScript, it's important to understand how they are crawled and rendered by them to ensure sites can perform well in Google. I've successfully migrated 4 large websites from HTML/PHP to JavaScript without any loss in organic traffic.
I use JIRA to create tickets and briefs for the product and development teams. Although I have been using it since 2014, I would say my knowledge is limited, as I do not spend a great deal of time in the app due to my needs.
I have limited experience using SEMrush, as most of the time I am using its alternative, Ahrefs. However, the tools have a very similar feature set, so when I do use SEMrush, it's usually pretty easy to get things done in it.
I use Trello to create tickets for the product and development teams. I do not really like to use Trello; I find it very limiting, frustrating, and slow. There are much better options available.
From an SEO point of view, I'd say my knowledge of WordPress is advanced (although I'm no coder!) When I worked agency-side, I would often be making changes to clients' sites myself in WordPress. I also first learned the basics of technical and on-site SEO when I built my own site on WordPress in 2010. I currently have a personal website which is based on WordPress, which I have successfully got to the first position of Google for 'technical SEO consultant'.
