On the GrowthMentor platform, mentors set their own rates.
We respect people's time and if a mentor wants to charge for their time, that is totally fair.
Time is money, right?
You’ll find that approximately a third of the mentors on the platform are offering to do calls at no charge.
We get asked “Why are some mentors free?” quite often and the answers vary. We’ll list a few reasons, but each mentor has the choice to charge whatever they would like- so this by no means covers all of the reasons why.
They want to share their experiences and help others learn from them. This is the reason for the majority of the ‘free mentors’.
Sharing their experiences, wins and failures can truly change the trajectory of someone else’s path.
Just think, a member could come to a mentor with an idea that their company is thinking about implementing. What if that particular move was something that destroyed a startup where the mentor had been working. In this case, the mentor would basically be a superhero, single-handedly saving the company from imminent danger.
On a positive note, the majority of the time mentors are sharing things that HAVE worked for them and led to growth.
During the interview process we share the platform values and make it very clear that anyone who is here strictly for the money is not a good fit. During that conversation there have been quite a few mentors who align with our vision and say, “I’m happy to do it at no cost.”
New mentors are asked to do some free sessions in the beginning to get their feet wet and get a feel for the platform.
We think it is important for them to understand the process and how the sessions work. It for some reason they don’t feel like it is a good fit for them, this is the time for them to decide if this is something that they will truly enjoy.
This is also an amazing opportunity for our members to get a free call with someone who normally charges hundreds of dollars for their time. Make sure and pay close attention to new mentor notifications.
They know they can add value and help people, so why should they be at the bottom of the list?!
Econ 101 - the rules of supply and demand. At this time our ‘Browse all’ list ranks by the number of reviews a mentor has done. Anyone with zero reviews is randomly mixed in with the other zero reviews at the bottom.
If a mentor wants to break out from that group, what better way to build up some reviews than to offer free calls?
Do you go to the restaurant on the bottom of the TripAdvisor list?
Whatever the reason is, we guarantee you that FREE does NOT equal LAME.
These mentors had to jump through numerous hoops to be on this list. Don’t skim past them because their price is ‘free’ - let their profiles and reviews do the talking for them.
With platform membership, you can book up to 5 hours of calls with these ‘free’ mentors. That can be ten 30 min calls with ten different mentors!
